What DirectStorage is designed to do

Microsoft describes DirectStorage as a way for games to use high-speed storage for many small reads with less CPU overhead. It modernizes the path between game assets, storage, memory and potentially GPU decompression. The objective is faster loading and more efficient asset streaming.

It is an application programming interface, not a universal SSD mode. The game must implement it. Installing a 990 PRO does not convert an older title into a DirectStorage title, and Samsung Magician cannot enable the feature for software that does not call the API.
