USB4 is not one single speed
A product described only as USB4 may support a lower mode than another USB4 product. Compare the stated bandwidth and host support rather than relying on the logo alone.
40Gbps remains a practical tier
For many PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 drives, a well-designed 40Gbps enclosure provides strong performance at a lower price than emerging 80Gbps products.
Backward compatibility changes performance
An enclosure may connect to an older USB port but operate at 20Gbps or 10Gbps. Compatibility does not mean identical speed.
Thermals determine sustained value
A lower-cost enclosure can be a good choice for intermittent transfers, while continuous workloads may benefit from a larger heat sink or fan.

Is USB4 the same as Thunderbolt 4?

Will a USB4 enclosure work on USB 3.2?
