Best Core Ultra 9 285H Mini PCs: Models and Prices

Choose the GEEKOM IT15 with Core Ultra 9 285H for a compact productivity desktop. Choose the GMKtec EVO-T1 with 32GB or more when several internal SSDs, dual Ethernet or OCuLink are useful. Both are better judged by the complete setup than by the Ultra 9 badge alone.

Which model to choose

GMKtec EVO-T1, 32GB or 96GB

Best for storage expansion and a connected home lab. Its three NVMe positions and OCuLink make the enclosure the deciding feature.

Buying guide

Which Core Ultra 9 285H Mini PC is the better fit?

Our starting recommendation is the GEEKOM IT15 with the 285H processor for a tidy everyday workstation. It is the simple shortlist choice for someone replacing a larger office computer and using several demanding applications. The GMKtec EVO-T1 is the alternative for a buyer who needs more internal SSD space or plans to use its additional connectivity. Choose the model around those practical differences before spending more on a memory or storage tier.

An IT15 listing can include more than one processor option, and the EVO-T1 can be sold as a barebone. A barebone makes sense if you already own compatible parts and want to build the system yourself. For someone who wants a working desktop out of the box, compare an installed RAM and SSD configuration. Include the operating system and any missing parts in the total cost rather than comparing the lowest advertised entry prices.

The important 285H specifications

Intel specifies 16 cores and 16 threads for the Core Ultra 9 285H: six performance cores, eight efficient cores and two low-power efficient cores. Its maximum turbo frequency is up to 5.4GHz, and the integrated graphics are Intel Arc 140T. Those specifications describe the processor. The cooling system and firmware in a Mini PC decide how the computer behaves during extended work.

This is the 285H, not the 285HX or a desktop Core Ultra processor. Similar names can conceal different core counts, graphics and power requirements. A compact 285H machine is useful for a mixed workload involving office applications, programming and media. If a specific rendering or engineering application is essential, use that application’s supported hardware list to decide whether integrated Arc graphics meet your needs.

How much RAM and SSD capacity should you buy?

Start with 32GB of installed memory for a capable general-purpose desktop. Move to 64GB or a supported larger tier when you can identify the need: several virtual machines, big project files or development tools that already consume most of a smaller machine’s RAM. Leave headroom for the operating system. Buying a very large RAM tier simply because it exists can be poor value if your bottleneck is instead graphics acceleration or storage capacity.

A 1TB SSD is reasonable for office work and development with moderate local files. A 2TB drive is more convenient for media projects and several development environments. The EVO-T1’s multiple NVMe positions are useful if you want separate working and project drives. They are not a backup plan by themselves: a second SSD inside the same computer remains vulnerable to the same theft, electrical problem or major system failure.

IT15 versus EVO-T1 connectivity

Choose the IT15 when its documented display and peripheral connections fit your desk without additional equipment. Choose the EVO-T1 when dual Ethernet, three internal NVMe drives or OCuLink addresses a specific requirement. A useful way to compare is to draw up the devices you already own: monitor count, monitor resolution, external drive, network connection, headset and any dock. Then assign a real connector to each device before ordering the computer.

OCuLink can connect an external GPU but adds cost and complexity. Include the dock, card, power supply and cable in the budget, and shut down before connecting or disconnecting it. For a fixed workstation where dedicated graphics are essential every day, compare the complete external-GPU setup with a conventional desktop. A smaller computer plus several external boxes does not always produce a more practical desk.

AI features, media work and driver support

The 285H includes an NPU as well as CPU and GPU acceleration. Intel’s combined platform TOPS figure is not the NPU’s own performance figure, and neither is a direct forecast of local language-model speed. Buy for the application you intend to run. Check whether its Intel backend supports the model, precision and operating system you need. A small successful trial is more useful than a large number on a product image.

For video editing, codec support and the application’s implementation matter as much as the processor badge. Test a short clip in the format you actually record, including your preferred effects and export settings. Keep the manufacturer’s chipset and graphics drivers available when reinstalling Windows. For Linux, verify the kernel and graphics-stack requirements of the software you use before making the new machine the only working computer in your office.

Alternatives when the preferred model is unavailable

The IT15 and EVO-T1 are the first alternatives to each other when both have the exact 285H processor and comparable installed memory. Moving from a 2TB SSD to 1TB is often easier to accommodate than dropping below the RAM needed by your workload. If you need more internal storage positions, the EVO-T1’s design may justify waiting for it rather than buying a different enclosure solely because its headline CPU is the same.

Consider a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 system for a capable mixed desktop, especially when its particular memory and graphics design fits your applications. Consider Ryzen AI Max+ 395 for substantially more demanding integrated-graphics or high-memory local AI work. If you require CUDA or a replaceable desktop graphics card, look at a dedicated GPU workstation. The right alternative preserves the capability your work needs rather than merely matching the price.

Plan the complete working setup

Include the screen, keyboard, storage backup and any required dock in the budget. A powerful small computer cannot fix an unsuitable monitor connection or recover files that were never backed up. If you are replacing a working system, keep the old machine available while installing the applications that matter. Move one representative project first, check its output and confirm that sleep, networking and external devices behave as expected before moving the rest of your work.

For a purchase intended to last several years, consider how you will obtain firmware, drivers and replacement parts. A clear support route and a return window that allows a realistic trial can be more valuable than a small difference in headline specifications. Test the workload that motivated the purchase during that period: a long build, your actual game, a video export or the local model you plan to use. Keep the result, configuration and settings together so future upgrades address a measured limitation.

Questions buyers ask

Which 285H model should most buyers shortlist?

Our starting choice is the GEEKOM IT15 with the 285H processor for a compact productivity desktop. Choose GMKtec EVO-T1 when extra SSD positions, dual Ethernet or OCuLink are important.

Does Core Ultra 9 285H have 16 threads?

Yes. Intel lists 16 cores and 16 threads for the 285H. Do not substitute specifications from the differently configured 285HX.

Is 32GB enough?

32GB is a good starting point for mixed desktop work. Buy more when virtual machines, large projects or a known application memory budget justify it.
