Why the drives can often coexist

Both families use the SATA interface and are designed for NAS use. If the enclosure supports each exact model and capacity, the operating system can often assemble them into the same storage pool. That is a compatibility statement, not a recommendation for every workload.

Firmware, platform generation and compatibility-list status still matter. A drive can be a valid IronWolf product yet remain untested or unsupported in one particular NAS.

The Pro rating does not spread across the array

Current standard IronWolf is rated for a 180TB-per-year workload and a three-year limited warranty. Current tracked IronWolf Pro models carry a higher workload tier and five-year limited warranty. Adding one Pro member does not change the specification of the standard members.
