Mini PCs for Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI UK

Choose an ASUS ROG NUC (2025) with an RTX 5080 Laptop GPU when you want a compact NVIDIA system with 16GB of graphics memory. Choose the AtomMan G7 Pro for an 8GB RTX 5070 Laptop setup and smaller supported workflows. For large image models or demanding custom nodes, compare a tower with more VRAM before paying a premium for size.

Buying guide

Buy for the image workflow, not the AI label

For Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI, a supported NVIDIA GPU is the simplest starting direction when you expect CUDA-based tools and custom nodes. The ROG NUC with RTX 5080 Laptop graphics gives a larger dedicated memory budget than the G7 Pro’s RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. These are laptop-class graphics implementations inside compact desktops, so do not substitute benchmarks from desktop cards with similar names.

The G7 Pro is a reasonable lower-capacity comparison for workflows that fit its graphics memory. Neither machine is the right answer to every diffusion model. If your intended work requires more VRAM, choose a larger dedicated-GPU system rather than expecting extra system RAM or an NPU to remove that requirement.

Account for every part of the graph

The model, image resolution, batch size, control networks, upscaler and other nodes contribute to memory use. A basic image generation example can run while the complete production graph fails. Start with a representative graph and the exact model family you plan to use. Test it at your normal resolution and batch size before deciding that a smaller GPU is enough.

Offloading and lower-memory modes can make some workloads possible, but usually introduce tradeoffs in speed or flexibility. They are useful options, not proof that every 8GB computer equals a larger-memory GPU. Allow headroom for the operating system, browser and model-loading process as well as the active image calculation.

Choose a supported installation path

ComfyUI documents multiple hardware paths, including NVIDIA, AMD and Intel. The practical experience also depends on the framework build, driver and custom nodes. A node that expects CUDA can make an otherwise capable non-NVIDIA computer unsuitable for that particular graph. Confirm the complete set of required tools instead of buying from a generic statement that the application supports a GPU brand.

Keep a working environment and a copy of your graph before experimenting with updates. Change one dependency at a time if a project matters. Download models from sources you trust and keep personal datasets backed up independently. A local installation still needs sensible file handling and access control.

Choose a genuinely useful alternative

If the RTX 5080 ROG NUC is unavailable, compare another complete compact RTX 5080 Laptop configuration with the same graphics-memory capacity. A cheaper RTX 5070 option is not equal when 16GB VRAM is the reason for the purchase. An NVIDIA tower with sufficient VRAM is a sensible alternative when the compact form is optional.

An EVO-X2 can be interesting for a specifically supported AMD workflow, but it is not a drop-in CUDA replacement. Choose it only after verifying the framework and nodes you require. For paid production, prioritize a repeatable installation, enough memory and predictable support over a very small case or an impressive platform TOPS number.

Budget memory for the whole application

Choose a model size and a useful context window before choosing a computer. A model file is only one part of memory use: the runtime, attention cache, operating system, browser and other applications need room too. Four-bit quantization reduces weight storage, but it does not make every part of inference four-bit. A machine that loads a model with almost no free memory may become frustrating during a long conversation. For a first local AI desktop, 32GB suits smaller experiments, 64GB provides more working room, and 128GB is worth comparing when model capacity drives the purchase.

Shared memory and dedicated video memory behave differently. An integrated GPU uses part of the same physical RAM as the CPU. A discrete GPU has its own VRAM, and moving work between that memory and host RAM can reduce throughput. Do not add the two capacities together and treat the result as one equally fast pool. Choose a supported backend first, then enough memory for the workload and a reasonable reserve.

Build a useful local AI workspace

A 1TB SSD is a workable starting point for a few smaller models. Choose 2TB when you expect several large downloads, separate environments and your own documents. Keep projects and irreplaceable data backed up separately. An additional internal drive helps organize work but does not protect against the failure or loss of the whole computer. A fast network is useful when datasets live on a NAS; it does not automatically combine several PCs into one larger accelerator.

Plan for long sessions rather than a brief demonstration. Leave the intake and exhaust clear, use a stable power supply, and try a balanced power profile if the machine shares your desk with a microphone. Measure whole-system power if electricity cost matters. The adapter rating and processor power limit are not constant wall consumption. Buy an expandable system when you expect to change RAM or storage, and a fixed-memory system only after choosing the memory tier you intend to keep.

Test the workflow while returns are straightforward

Install the current supported application and graphics driver, then begin with a small model. Confirm which processing backend is active instead of assuming that an AI badge means your software uses the NPU. Load your intended model, run a realistic prompt, and watch memory use and response time through a longer exchange. For a shared service, test simultaneous requests as well as a single user. A successful download or a screenshot of a loaded model is not enough to judge a working setup.

Keep the application version, model format, quantization and power mode with any performance notes. Those details explain why two reports about the same processor can differ. For an alternative purchase, preserve the requirements that matter: usable memory, supported accelerator and necessary ports. A lower-memory replacement is not equivalent when capacity is the reason for buying. If your essential tools require CUDA or a replaceable graphics card, allow space and budget for an NVIDIA desktop instead.

Buying and support in the UK

Compare the complete UK purchase cost in pounds, including delivery and the parts needed to finish a barebone. Check whether a marketplace seller supplies the machine from UK stock or ships it internationally. That affects delivery, possible additional charges and the practical return route. Look for the correct UK mains lead and a clear description of the included operating-system licence. A compact case does not make an overseas support arrangement more convenient.

Keep the invoice, serial number and exact RAM and SSD configuration. For a business desk, ask who handles a hardware fault and how a replacement is arranged before buying several units. When the first model is unavailable, keep the required memory, graphics and ports in the alternative. Include a monitor, keyboard and independent backup in the budget where needed. Compare the finished, usable computer rather than a low barebone headline price.

Questions buyers ask

Is an NPU enough for ComfyUI?

Not as a general replacement for the GPU and framework required by your graph. Check the documented backend and every important custom node.

Is 8GB VRAM enough for Stable Diffusion?

Some supported workflows fit, while larger models, resolutions and graphs need more. Test a representative workflow and choose more VRAM when that is the limiting requirement.

Which ROG NUC configuration is recommended here?

The 2025 RTX 5080 Laptop version for its 16GB graphics-memory tier. Other GPU options in the same family have different capabilities and should be compared separately.
