Why a calculator is better than a fixed minutes table

ProRes storage demand changes with codec, resolution, frame rate and application. ProRes RAW adds further variation. A fixed statement that one terabyte always records a specific number of minutes can therefore be misleading. The most reliable approach is to measure or obtain the data rate for the exact mode and calculate from that value.

A useful storage estimate starts with the amount of data written each second, then multiplies it by recording time. Advertised capacity is not the same as free formatted space, and a drive should not be planned to finish with zero remaining bytes. Account for copies beyond the capture SSD

The calculator’s primary result is the mobile recording requirement, but the project needs more total storage. Editing often creates proxies, renders, cache files and exports.
