HGST Ultrastar 7K6000 is a 7200 RPM enterprise HDD generation with legacy capacities including 2TB, 4TB, 5TB and 6TB. Buyers often need a specific replacement, so a model-code check is essential.
Start with HUS7260 and match the size and SATA suffix to the original drive. Compare the condition, returns policy and whether a newer replacement is officially approved for your storage appliance.

HGST Ultrastar buying details for this drive family
Practical details that matter when comparing exact HDDs, capacities and configurations.
What the HUS7260 code tells you
The official 7K6000 manual identifies distinct HUS726020, HUS726040, HUS726050 and HUS726060 SATA capacity families. Model endings can also distinguish secure erase and formatting options.
Older OEM drives may carry firmware or label variants; exact matching matters when replacing parts in a RAID appliance.
Replacement versus expansion
If your goal is recovering a storage pool rather than simply purchasing low-cost HDD space, the original unit model and the array management software decide the safe path.
A larger 6TB drive is not automatically a correct replacement for a 4TB drive. Check controller and rebuild policy before substituting any size.
Refurbished purchasing checks
Seller descriptions for legacy hard drives can be inconsistent. Ask about testing methodology, serial number disclosure, power-on hours and return rights.
The drive should be tested outside your only copy of important data before production use, and monitored after deployment.
What happens if listings are limited?
An older Ultrastar model may have only a few legitimate offers on Amazon at any given time. Rather than display unrelated drives as exact matches, we keep the listing count honest and offer a manufacturer-model search as a separate action.
If no good exact replacement exists, evaluate an approved substitute and confirm its interface, sector format and condition before committing.
How we evaluate an offer
The price cards prioritize a correct part-number family, matching capacity and verifiable interface. Only offers returned by the site’s configured Amazon catalogue can show a verified price, and last-verified observations keep their original age.
We do not manufacture discounts, claim a laboratory test, or present used stock as new. An Amazon offer can change between verification and checkout.

Frequently asked questions
Is HGST Ultrastar the same as WD Ultrastar?
They are connected through Western Digital ownership and the continuation of the Ultrastar enterprise drive line. Check the exact generation and model code; the branding alone does not prove technical identity.
Can a SAS Ultrastar drive be used in a SATA-only NAS?
Usually not. SAS requires appropriate SAS-capable hardware, so check the appliance specifications and the full drive suffix before purchasing.
Is a refurbished HGST Ultrastar safe for important data?
A refurbished drive can be usable, but no single disk should be the only copy of important data. Review seller testing, return rights, SMART health and backups.
Does price per TB tell me which Ultrastar to buy?
Price per TB helps compare capacity cost, but interface, condition, formatted capacity, warranty and system fit are equally important.
