Rated speed and operating speed differ

A kit marketed as DDR5-6000 or DDR5-7200 includes settings for that rate, but the system can select a lower common speed. The final value depends on the processor, board, firmware, module type, rank and number of populated slots.

Official specifications are configuration-specific

Processor vendors commonly publish different rates for one DIMM per channel and two DIMMs per channel. Intel's Core Ultra 200S headline rate is tied to specified one-DIMM-per-channel CUDIMM configurations, while AMD lists separate two-module and four-module rates for the 9800X3D.

Motherboard maximums are not guarantees

A board may advertise an extreme overclocked speed achieved with selected modules and a favorable slot layout. That number does not override the processor memory controller or guarantee a large four-DIMM kit will reach the same setting.

Profiles apply timing and voltage together

EXPO and XMP contain more than a frequency number. They apply primary timings, voltage and related settings. A profile must be recognized by the board, and the complete configuration still needs stability testing.

Capacity can reduce speed headroom

Higher-capacity modules can present a heavier load, especially when combined with four slots. A 96GB or 128GB system should be evaluated as a capacity-first configuration unless the exact kit and board have been validated at a high rate.

CUDIMM changes the Intel discussion

CUDIMMs include an onboard clock driver and are part of Intel's stated path to DDR5-6400 on Core Ultra 200S. A conventional UDIMM rated at the same number is not automatically covered by the same configuration statement. Check the board manual for CUDIMM support.

First-word latency helps compare nearby kits

CAS latency can be converted into an approximate first-word delay when the data rate is known. A lower CL at the same speed reduces the calculated delay. This is useful for comparing 6000 CL30 and 6000 CL36, but it is not a complete application benchmark.

A lower stable speed can outperform an unstable profile

Memory errors, retries and crashes erase any theoretical advantage from a higher clock. Choose a configuration that survives long diagnostics and real workloads. A stable 5600 or 6000 setting is better than an intermittent 7200 profile.
