How to plan this model

A lower-cost route to four-drive RAID

The DH4300 Plus provides RAID 5 and RAID 6, 2.5GbE and four SATA bays without the higher price of the Intel DXP4800 Plus.

Understand the ARM trade-off

It supports Docker, but fixed memory and ARM application compatibility make it better for lighter containers than for a large homelab or virtual-machine workload.

Four bays improve capacity efficiency

RAID 5 uses one drive equivalent for protection. Four matched 12TB drives provide about 36TB before overhead, compared with about 12TB from two 12TB drives in RAID 1.

DH4300 Plus questions

Does the DH4300 Plus support Docker?

Yes, but its fixed 8GB memory and ARM processor are best suited to lighter containers. It does not support virtual machines.

Does it have M.2 SSD slots?

No. Storage is provided by the four SATA bays.

What is the difference from the DXP4800 Plus?

The DXP4800 Plus adds Intel x86 processing, expandable memory, M.2 slots, 10GbE and virtual-machine support. The DH4300 Plus is the simpler lower-cost four-bay option.

How much storage do four 20TB drives provide in RAID 5?

The simple estimate is 60TB before system and file-system overhead.

Can I start with two drives?

Yes. You can begin with Basic or RAID 1 and expand later, but review supported migration paths and back up important data before changing an array.

RAID improves availability but is not a substitute for an independent backup.
