Cross-brand SkyHawk NVR checker
Seagate SkyHawk NVR Compatibility Checker
Select an exact tracked recorder model from Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Lorex, Swann or UniFi Protect. The checker combines the manufacturer’s published bay profile with camera bitrate and retention, then recommends a current standard SkyHawk or SkyHawk AI model only when the plan fits.
Quick answer
A SATA connector alone does not prove compatibility. The recorder must support the drive form factor and capacity, the storage plan must fit the number of bays, and the selected SkyHawk tier must suit the workload. Models not in the checker require manual verification from the current manufacturer specification.

Current verified SkyHawk and SkyHawk AI offers
Only fresh, exact-model products returned by Amazon's new-condition search are eligible. Featured prices are shown when Amazon exposes them; products with no buy box are shown as buying options. Exact family, capacity and current-model matching are enforced.
Interactive decision tool
Check exact recorder fit and footage retention
Choose the exact profile, enter the recording load and receive a fit result with capacity per bay and an exact SkyHawk direction.
What the checker verifies
The tool checks the selected recorder’s channel count, internal and supported external bays, documented per-bay size, total raw limit and storage form factor. It then compares those limits with the calculated footage requirement.
What the checker cannot verify automatically
It cannot see the physical recorder label, installed firmware, regional suffix, power-supply health or a manufacturer compatibility database that changes after publication. Those remain final checks.
How footage storage is calculated
Total cameras × average bitrate × recording time × retention days produces the raw footage estimate. Activity percentage and reserve adjust it for motion recording and planning headroom.
How the SkyHawk tier is selected
Standard SkyHawk is considered for supported capacities through 8TB. SkyHawk AI is selected for larger per-bay requirements, recorder profiles that prefer 7,200RPM, or heavier systems.
Why exact model matching matters
Amazon may return a complete recorder, an old SkyHawk revision, another capacity or another Seagate family. The dedicated catalogue requires an exact current VX or VE model in the title or model field.
When the plan does not fit
If capacity per bay exceeds the recorder limit, reduce bitrate or retention, add supported bays, choose a newer recorder, or split the camera load. Do not force an unsupported drive size.
Installation safety
Back up footage, shut down, install the drive securely, initialize it in the recorder and verify recording and playback. A format operation erases the disk.
Use the result as a purchase gate
Buy only after exact recorder, capacity, drive model, condition, seller and warranty route are confirmed. Recheck official documentation when the recorder firmware changes.
How Cloudzat evaluates recorder compatibility
Cloudzat separates the exact recorder model from the exact drive model. Bay count, published drive-size limits, form factor, firmware generation and storage architecture are attached to a named recorder profile. Standard SkyHawk VX and SkyHawk AI VE drives remain separate so a 5,400RPM standard model is not presented as equivalent to a 7,200RPM AI model.
Live offers are screened for new single internal 3.5-inch SATA drives. SSDs, external drives, SAS products, complete NVR or DVR systems, camera bundles, accessories, multipacks, WD Purple Pro, other Seagate families and non-new listings are rejected. A calculator result does not override the recorder manufacturer's exact compatibility list, hardware revision, firmware release notes or environmental limits.
Frequently asked questions
SkyHawk NVR checker questions
Why is my NVR model not listed?
The build contains curated profiles with published bay and capacity data. An unlisted model needs manual verification; it is not automatically incompatible.
Does SATA mean any SkyHawk capacity works?
No. Firmware and controller limits can be lower than the physical SATA interface.
Why does the checker recommend SkyHawk AI?
The per-bay requirement may exceed 8TB, the recorder may prefer 7,200RPM, or the system scale may justify the higher workload tier.
Can I use fewer larger drives?
Only when each larger drive remains within the recorder’s published per-bay limit and the storage mode supports the layout.
Is the retention estimate exact?
No. Variable bitrate, audio, motion patterns, scene complexity, metadata and file-system overhead change actual retention.
Do Amazon buying-options products count?
Yes, exact products can be shown without a featured price, but they are excluded from price-per-terabyte math until Amazon exposes a price.
